Q&A] compared, comparing, compare with, compare to

compare

1. Compared with your classmates, you don’t study enough.
主句主詞 you 和 compare 是被動關係,即: (you are) compared with your classmates. 所以用compared with。

2. Comparing Option A with Option B, he chose A.

-ed vs. -ing participle clauses (分詞從句):

compare with, compare to 的區別

1. To “compare to" is to point out or imply resemblances between objects regarded as essentially of a different order; that is, to point out their similarities.

2. To “compare with" is mainly to point out differences between objects regarded as essentially of the same order.

一般來說,可用「compare A with/ to B」的句型,此時with和to都可表「與…

“Compare A with B" 的意思是「把A和B作出比較」:
We should not compare apples with oranges as they are completely different.

“Compare A to B" 的意思則是「把A比作B」:
Eric compared his wife to the Devil.
